11/20/11

Yep, it is a rediculous habit of Gracie's to instantly remove all articles on her feet.  We will get in the van to go to the store, school, or even church, and when we arrive, she usually needs to put her socks and shoes back on.  At first it was cute, but come on!  Ok, it is still cute, but funny.  She even gets out of the van (keep in mind winter is just around the corner) and runs around at home with bare feet!  She has never really liked socks on her feet, even as a baby.  In fact, one of her early nicknames as "one sock" because she always had one sock on and one off.

We lover her!

children updates

Sylvia-1st grade drama!  Mike and I really didn't know it would come so soon.  A boy told her that he had a crush on her and she told him she didn't want him to have a crush on her.  He still did so she gave him a "foul", where you put your hands into an X, and the other child needs to give two put-ups.  Which I have found doesn't really work at any level, especially when you give it to a kid who 1. doesn't care and 2. the "fouler" does a foul for someone who simply has a crush.  Who wouldn't have a crush?    She is excited for Christmas and Thanksgiving.  She has made five gifts and hid them under her bed.  She also made a chain this morning to countdown the day that we put the tree up.

Gracie- Continues to be joyful and sweet.  She was so excited to give me gifts for my birthday.  At one point I saw her start to cry because she was so excited.  I just can't believe that MY birthday can cause so much joy for a 4 1/2 year old girl.  And don't forget the 1/2, she won't let you forget it.  She will be 5 in a couple months!   And she has full day kindergarten next year.  I can't believe my baby girl is getting so old.   She is ready for it though.  (not sure about no naps).  She has many friends at her school and she always tells me who has timeouts or who had a sad note sent home to a parent.  She assures me that she has never had a timeout or a sad note.

Andrew- He loves to play.  He is constantly talking to his Little People.  I love to hear his conversations with the toys.  He also likes to pretend cook, and pretend to be a doggy.  He loves going to school and talks about Miss Kristy a lot.  He continues to twist his lips to the side when he is saying something, something only people who are around him a lot could understand.  I have realized recently that I also do this.  I would love to get a picture of it but he continues to have something against cameras.  He will say please and thank you only when he is not told to say it.  He will opt out of a cookie if he would have to obey and say thank you.  Potty training is on hold for now.

Mike-coaching BB, working a lot, we miss him!  He is doing a lot with Pabama and Snake Kings. He is right now, bring turkeys to Angel Church in Muskegon.  Saturday we are meeting with the Pabama families to rake leaves.

Laura- new projects with the house because I am bored of doing the same cleaning everyday.  found out that my school is turning into a 5th/6th building and Lakeshore (the other middle school) will be a 7th/8th building.  That means changes for me where ever I end up.  If I go to Lakeshore next year I will be in a new building and with a new teacher.  If I go to White Pines I will have elementary hours, which will be nice, but I could no longer help out in my children's classrooms.  I don't know where sounds better, so I just pray that God takes care of it!

11/13/11

To answer last week's poll question (for all you Sternberg fanatics out there):

I (Mike) am convinced that Gracie will be a missionary, or some type of evangelist, when she is older.  She has such a love for God.  She is such a lover.  She has been so shmoopy lately.  And even though she is still a mommy's girl, she will come up and whisper to me, "I am a daddy's girl too.  But don't tell mommy."  :)

Yet, whenever she tells us how much she loves us, there is always a catch.  She always says, "I love you a lot mommy and daddy, but not as much as I love God!"  She has always said this.  Too cute.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAMA!

Yes, as you can see by the pictures below, Andrew was a pirate for Halloween.  And a doggone cute one, too, if I do say so myself.  Check out this week's new question on the right.

Halloween!

We start off the Halloween season with decorating in the beginning of the month.  I opened the decorations, mostly kid's art work and some hand-me-downs from my mom.  I opened it and right away noticed that something wasn't right.  The papers were damp and it smelled terrrible in there!  I lifted one paper and realized that mold was everywhere.  Although I never found out what it was because it was too aweful and went right to the dumpster, I am guessing that one of us put a real pumpkin or gourd in the box.  So, we didn't do as many decorations this year.

We went camping with my family in the middle of October.  We had so much fun once again.  It is amazing how we have had such awesome weather for three years now.  Some memories from this year would be sleeping 9 in an 8 person camper (8 very small people camper), which turned out to work great and we spent most of our time outside.  Another good memory would be the "moosh" monster, running through the trails, eating delicious hot soups/chilis, Mom and Alan's pirate campsite (won the award for the campground),  constant baby sitters (great neices who helped so much with the kids).  I think my favorite is our walk at night time.  We went to see the sights at night and we would hide out and scare each other.  It was a simple memory, but there was something so special about it!  It was a great weekend!

Saturday before Halloween was spent with the Sternberg's and the Puplis Family and great grandparents.  (Sternberg and Haverdink).  The kids played a fun game, got to see family, and added to their candy collection.  It was great to see the great grandparents.  They are always so good to us!  Oh, and we celebrated my birthday!

We celebrated Halloween on Monday by going downtown, coming home for dinner, then going back out to people that we know and ended on our street, visiting our neighbors.  Sylvia and Gracie ate a couple pieces of their candy and Andrew didn't have a single piece because he wouldn't say thank you to one single person!  Don't feel bad for him, he just shrugs his shoulders and walks away.

Although I do enjoy Halloween, nothing compares to the real Holidays!  I can't wait to go to the store this week and see the Christmas trees and decorations out!  Life is so much fun this time of the year!

Here are a few words to describe the kids right now:

Sylvia: "No Fair",  nothing is fair!  Conferences: teacher "love, love, loves Sylvia", doing great at school!  And she loves school.  She gets along with kids and teachers great.   She was saving up for a doll house, until there was a book fair at her school.  She is not so good a saving.

Gracie:  Starting to read!  It is so much fun watching her figure out the words.  I think this is a great stage where you can actually read her expressions and see it click.  She loves to play school.  She has been very shmoopy lately.  Kisses, hugs, or kind words and wispers!  (I love you so much mommy/daddy)

Andrew:  Me no say please, me no say thank you, me no say sorry, me no smile (but he really is a great kid, I think it is just a fun game for him)  "with me in my room?" = will you play with me in my room?  He loves to play!  "I tell you something in your ear daddy:  I love my mommy"  Mommy's Boy!
